Greenland Logistics

As Greenland is an island, transportation by sea is necessary in most cases.  Sea transport to and from Greenland is with a few exceptions covered by a concession held by the shipping company Royal Arctic Line (RAL).

The concession covers domestic sea transport as well. Royal Arctic Line operates mainly out of Aalborg, Denmark, but has an extended shipping service through cooperation agreements with other international shipping companies.

Royal Arctic Line also handles freight forwarding along with other – mostly Danish – freight forwarding companies.
Transportation by air is possible through the Greenlandic airline company, Air Greenland. Air Greenland provides services to all the major cities in Greenland by plane, and many of the smaller cities and settlements by helicopter.

Air Greenland also handles charter and cargo, and the airline’s cargo service ensures delivery of all forms of general cargo as well as some special shipments – including frozen and cold storage shipments. This service is used to ship fresh fish from the Arctic waters to European restaurants within 48 hours of the fish being caught.

More information on shipping, cargo and charter services can be found at http://www.airgreenland.com/, http://www.ral.gl/, http://www.bws.dk/ or by contacting Greenland Tourism & Business Council at info@inussuk.gl
