U.S. and Greenland to Sign Tax Agreement

The United States and Greenland have successfully concluded negotiations on a bilateral tax agreement governing commercial air travel and shipping.

The agreement will be signed Tuesday, December 9, in Copenhagen by U.S. Ambassador to the Kingdom of Denmark James P. Cain and Greenland Home Rule Minister for Finance and Foreign Affairs Per Berthelsen.

The agreement will provide a clear legal framework for the future growth of commercial air and sea traffic between the U.S. and Greenland. The new agreement is yet the latest sign of the increasingly broad and significant business and commercial ties between Greenland and the United States, which both parties, along with Denmark, have promoted through the U.S.-Greenland-Denmark Joint Committee.

Ambassador Cain, in commenting on the agreement, noted that:

- This is yet another sign of a growing and healthy economic partnership between the United States and Greenland, one that I am confident will continue to benefit both our peoples. Minister Berthelsen commented that

- As a young, modern country, we are very happy to continue to develop our relations with our friends, and I consider this agreement as a step towards strengthening our economic ties with the U.S.
