Tele Greenland is inaugurating sea cable in 2009

Next year Greenland will join the global internet highway when Tele Greenland launches brand new sea cables to boost internet speed in Greenland.

Tele Greenland, or just TELE, has launched several important initiatives to prepare itself for the digital future and to support the company's own vision of “Greenland at the centre of the world”. TELE´s investment in a submarine cable between Greenland and Europe and North America, respectively, ensures continued growth opportunities in Greenland in regards to the exploitation of IT and telecommunications.

The submarine cable, which is scheduled for commissioning in early 2009, will offer adequate capacity for many years to come as well as free satellite capacity for the towns and settlements which remain dependent on satellite communication. Other significant benefits are enhanced quality such as increased transmission speed between Greenland and the rest of the world and increased reliability of supply.

Capacity, quality and reliability are core requirements when it comes to delivering the new tele commodities demanded by the market in the coming years. The ability to develop competitive products is another prerequisite for the company to maintain the financial strength required to remain the principal engine in the development of Greenland's tele infrastructure and to meet the financial obligations resulting from the investment in the submarine cable.
