Greenland Foods

Food in Greenland has for centuries been based on fish, sea mammals (such as seal and whale), land mammals (such as caribou, musk ox and snow hare) and birds. The rough arctic climate produces meat of exceptional flavour and texture, although the animals have to be found and caught first.

This demanded highly skilled and determined efforts of the original, hardened Inuit hunters and their faithful sledge dogs. Descendents of these hunters still live and hunt in the traditional Inuit ways and the Greenlandic culture is still very much connected to the pristine Nature and keeping the animals wild and free, untouched by man or medicine.

The traditional Greenlandic food traditions and excellent raw materials have been supplemented by global gourmet traditions, taking the food experiences in Greenland to new levels. For more information on Greenlandic cuisine, please visit   www.greenlandexpo.com/content/us/trade_in_greenland/.
